Pompink ( Malus domestica 'Pompink') is a modern variety bred in France and developed at the Research Institute in Geisenheim, Germany. It was bred by crossing 'Obelisk-Flamenco' and 'Topaz' to produce a columnar tree with attractive and tasty fruit. The Pompink apple tree excels in compact growth and is ideal for gardeners with limited space.
Pompink prefers sunny to semi-shaded locations where results are best. It requires a permeable, humid and slightly moist soil.
Regular watering is needed, especially during the dry season. Minimal pruning, aimed at removing damaged shoots, encourages healthy growth and shape. The variety is grown on rootstock M26 , which promotes medium growth, early fruiting and ensures high tree stability. This rootstock is ideal for intensive cultivation in smaller gardens or containers.
The fruits are medium to large, with an average weight of 240 g, flat-spherical in shape.
The skin has a basic greenish-yellow colour, which is covered by 60-80 % bright red to purple.
The flesh is creamy-white, firm, juicy, with a slightly sour and aromatic flavour.
The fruit ripens at the end of September and is suitable for storage until December under the right conditions.
Pompink is highly resistant to scab (Venturia inaequalis) and powdery mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha), making it a suitable variety for efficient organic cultivation.
Its compact columnar growth allows it to be grown in a small space - in gardens, on terraces or in containers.
To ensure a good crop, growing close to other apple trees is recommended.
The Pompink apple tree is the ideal preparation for growers looking for a combination of beauty, practicality and exceptional fruit quality. Its unpretentiousness, high disease resistance and compact growth make it ideal for any gardener, whether for small gardens, balconies or organic growing.
