The 'Remo' apple tree is a German variety bred in Dresden-Pillnitz in 1974. This variety is known for its high disease resistance and high quality fruit, making it suitable for organic cultivation.
Remo' has medium-sized, spherical to slightly flattened fruits. The skin has a basic colour which is mostly covered by a red cheek. The flesh is light, juicy and crisp, with a balanced sweet and sour flavour, ideal for direct consumption. The fruit ripens at the end of September and will last until December if stored properly.
The tree grows moderately vigorously and forms a compact, well-branched crown which is suitable for intensive cultivation. The trees come into bearing early and produce regular and abundant crops. The variety 'Remo' is highly resistant to scab (Venturia inaequalis) and powdery mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha), making it the best without the most favourable ecological protection.
On rootstock M26, trees reach a height of approximately 2.5-3.5 metres. M26 is a semi-dwarfing rootstock, which promotes early fruiting and regular yields. This rootstock is suitable for fertile and well-drained soils, but requires support throughout the life of the tree. However, it is sensitive to excessive moisture and frosts and is therefore recommended for sheltered sites.
A sunny site with fertile and permeable soil is recommended for successful cultivation. The variety 'Remo' is partially self-pollinating, but planting close to pollinators such as 'Rewena' or 'Reanda' is recommended to increase yield. Regular pruning promotes healthy growth and a good quality crop, and shaping into an open canopy for better light is recommended.
The 'Remo' apple tree is an attractive variety with excellent flavour and high disease resistance. It is ideal for gardeners and fruit growers looking for a reliable and high quality crop.
