The 'Bolero' apple tree is a columnar variety bred in the UK, known for its compact growth and quality fruit. This variety is ideal for growing in smaller gardens, on terraces or in containers.
Bolero' has medium-sized, flat to round fruits. The skin is smooth, green, turning to yellow as they ripen, with a slight orange cheek on the sunny side. The flesh is white, firm, juicy and has a balanced sweet taste. The fruit ripens in September and is a mid-season fruit, ideal for direct consumption.
The tree is columnar, compact and has minimal branching. The fruit forms on short shoots along the main trunk, making it both a decorative and practical feature of the garden. On M26 rootstock, the tree reaches a height of 2,5-4 metres and a width of 0,5-1 metre. This growth makes it suitable for intensive cultivation in small areas.
The M26 rootstock is semi-dwarf, which encourages early fruiting and regular harvests. Trees on this rootstock require support throughout their life and do best in fertile, well-drained soils.
A sunny site with deep, fertile and permeable soil is recommended for successful cultivation. 'Bolero' is an alien pollinator and therefore needs the presence of other apple varieties flowering at the same time to ensure a bumper crop. Pruning is minimal, just remove damaged or diseased shoots and maintain the columnar shape of the tree.
The 'Bolero' apple tree is a great choice for those looking for a compact, compact, columnar variety that produces tasty, high quality fruit, also suitable for smaller spaces or container growing.
