A large-fruited, reliably hardy and twice-yearly fruiting variety of fig tree, also suitable for growing in pots.
Brunswick fig tree is one of the most reliable varieties for temperate climates. It has large, sweet fruit and the ability to bear twice a year - as early as mid-July and again from late August. Thanks to its parthenocarpic type of fruiting, it does not require pollination, which makes it an ideal choice for less experienced growers.
The plant has a compact and attractive shape. It retains a small stature even at maturity, making it suitable for growing in containers or smaller gardens. In the open ground it grows to a height of about 2,5 metres.
The fruits are large and juicy. Summer figs weigh 100-120 g, autumn figs around 80 g. The skin is yellow-brown with a purple tinge, the flesh is pale yellow, very sweet and aromatic - ideal for direct consumption, drying or processing.
The variety is parthenocarpic - it produces fruit without the need for pollination by the Blastophaga psenes wasp. It produces reliably even without the presence of pollinators, making it an excellent choice for closed or urban environments.
A double fruiting variety - the first wave of fruit ripens in mid-July, the second from late August to early October (depending on conditions).
In central European conditions, it is not susceptible to common fungal diseases or pests. The variety is not demanding to protect.
It reliably tolerates frosts down to -15 °C. In colder areas, covering the root system or overwintering in a cool, light room is recommended.
