The variety 'Ula' is an exceptional heart-shaped nut (Juglans ailantifolia var. cordiformis), which was developed thanks to the selection of Adam Kuźniar. This variety is characterised by its high fertility, attractive fruit and excellent flavour, making it an ideal choice for growers and gardeners alike.
Ula' has a size comparable to CW1 and CW3 and a typical heart shape. The shell is medium-thick and easy to peel, with a kernel yield of up to 28 %, which is above average for this type of nut. The kernel is sweet, highly oily, with an extremely delicious flavour. The kernel obtained is a mixture of whole kernels and halves, which increases its attractiveness.
The trees of this variety are medium-sized, with a compact crown and high fertility. The young trees start fruiting at the top buds of the shoots, which are about 1 cm thick, while the thicker shoots (2-2,5 cm) produce most of the lateral buds. This characteristic makes 'Ula' highly productive at a young age. The fruit ripens in late September/early October, allowing it to be grown in a wide range of areas.
The variety requires later pollen sources for pollination as it does not flower at the same time as the Juglans regia. The variety 'Imsu' is recommended as an optimal pollinator. Due to the rapid onset of vegetation, 'Ulu' should be grown on elevated sites to reduce the risk of damage from spring frosts.
The fruits of this variety are not only extremely tasty, sweet and rich in oil, but also easy to process, making them ideal for direct consumption and for further processing. Thanks to its exceptional characteristics, the 'Ula' variety is one of the premium varieties of heart-shaped nuts.
The 'Ula' variety is new to the market from autumn 2024 and is a promising choice for all those looking for a productive, hardy and high-quality nut variety adapted to different climatic conditions.
